Thank you morz8. The seed tray is now on dining room table, but no sign of a sprout as of Day 19 ...(sigh). Other seeds sprouted ahead of time. Is there anyone out there who has successfully germinated perennial chrysanthemum seeds? Thanks in advance.

Fresh seed takes a while and is spread-out over months, have had some seeds germinate 6 months down the road. Older seeds are quicker to germinate- about tens days when sown under glass on the surface under bright light.

I tried sprouting northern lights and primrose yellow chrysanthemums. I tried half in a seed propogator about 70 constantly and got poor germination (about 20%). I tried the other half in a covered metal tray set in a sunny southern window. I got about 50% germination on these at 4 weeks. I was using peat pellets.

Hardy mums will germinate with the winter sowing method...they like a natural cold period.

Thank you for the responses. I was hoping to reply that the chrysanthemum have finally germinated, but, almost Day 60 and, alas, they have not. They are still being watered and occupying a sunny spot in the dining room though, and I will post as soon as there is a pale green tip pushing through the soil, with a glass of champagne in hand...

I planted 9 Chrysanthemum koreanum 'Fanfare' seeds from Thompson & Morgan on Feb. 25. One of them sprouted 2 or 3 weeks later. No others have germinated at all. I kept saran wrap over the other 8 for a month or so, then gave up. They are presumed dead, although their barren peat pots remain with all the others - under lights, getting watered and fanned, etc. But I don't expect to see any life there.

Thank you, ladyslipper. Thompson & M is where I bought those seeds. None germinated yet... Maybe they were just difficult and/or really old seeds. Kindly let us know if your successful one that sprouted flowers eventually.
