I would call the GS headquarters. If they're not there, they could be extinct.

Girl Scout looks like a nice rose, but there aren't any vendors offering it. You can try asking here or on the Rose Propagation and Exchange forum is anyone has it and would be willing to provide cuttings. Good luck. Also try Len's advise.

I have contacted the GSUSA, they had some planted at headquarters here, but they died due to a winter freeze. :(

There are a few others that were known of, all have died. I was hoping someone had some in a personal garden. I will ask on the other board suggested, as well.

There is one grower listed on the HMF 'gardens' tab. You can try to send a private message through HMF to request cuttings.

I wish you the best on your quest. But did you noticed that it is hardy only to zone 6? It may be hard job to keep it alive in zone 4.

I did notice that in my research. It was my understanding that all roses can be planted here in zone 4, just that some need more extensive winter protection? I may be wrong, I guess. I was going off of midwestgardentips.com... I really hope I am not wrong there.

If anything, couldn't I plant it in a planter and bring it into my basement in the winters?

and we are kind of zone 5, zone 4- depends on which calculator/online tool thing I use. On the map we sit directly on the line, and there are patches of areas zone 5 within the 4 that is near us. I don't know- I am very new at all this. :)

the other roses I am interested in are purely for aesthetic purposes, no sentimental attraction, so they will all be hardy for this area... but I was really hoping to get a GS rose, too.

Trishia--In order to send a message to the gardener at Soccorro roses, you have to be registered at hmf. BION, this discussion came up almost a decade ago regarding the Girl Scout roses and that was the only private garden in the States where the rose was available. Although there was a Girl Scout rose listed in the Reno, NV Municipal Garden, it was mislabeled. JimD

thank you. I did sign up for the site and send a private message, though haven't heard back yet. In google searching I found a website for that gardener, says the rose was from her mothers garden who got it from her GS troop way back when. I really hope to hear back.
In good news- it seems as though GSUSA is in plans of getting another rose created for the 100th anniversary (in 2012).

Well the 100th anniversary rose didn't happen and now in 2024 we are still looking for the "Girl Scout". Jackson & Perkins confirmed they discontinued the rose some time ago . It seems from this chat that is wasn't a very hardy rose. Any updates on the search?
