I saw that on the news. Pretty shocking!!

That is just amazing. How does it get that far out of hand?

From the article -

Locals say the algae has never been so thick here - agricultural and industrial pollution are thought to be responsible.

But China, embarrassed by the most vivid proof yet of its environmental problems, says the algae is a natural occurrence, and blames the sea for being too salty, the sun for being too hot.

At a news conference earlier in the day one official suggested that algae could be good for you.

"The Japanese eat it," she said.

Ocean too salty? Sun too hot? Yeah, right, I think I'll stick with the pollution explanation. :)

Brenda

so shade your swimming pool and don't use those new fangled salt systems for algae ;^>

looks like they need to bail it and feed the livestock.

or send the bails to japan???

or, could be a new menu item at mcD's deep in the Chinese mainland. :^O

Since I have read several books this year that have such a bloom as part of the plot, I guess I am not too surprised. I am just really glad it is not toxic so far. Can we expect a die off any time soon? Sandy

I had lots of string algae in my pond this year but I read somewhere here about a chemical imbalance in the water. I popped some plant tabs into the lily pots ( which I thought would feed the algae) and very soon it started to disappear. Worked great !
