Pond leaking?

Hiya, a newbie here.

A bit of background first, we moved into our dream, village house 4 years ago. The previous owners had completely neglected it and it needed a lot of work and with 2 young children it's taking us a while to get everything done. We've finally cleared the garden of all the junk, weeds and concrete and are beginning to plan what we want to do with it.

We have a massive pond, which has been the highlight of the garden. The previous owner said that the best thing was to neglect it, as she'd lived there for 13 years and never done anything to the pond and it was thriving. She was right to some extent, neither hubby or I had had any experience with ponds, and so have done nothing with it, but it is teaming with life, loads of fish, frogs and newts.

The pond is 4m by 2m and about 0.75m deep. Suddenly, over the last month it has gone from being 3/4 full, to being barely 10cm deep. There seems to be no obvious leaks, and obviously it's been very hot, but in previous years we haven't lost so much water. I am really worried that we are going to lose all the fish, frogs and newts, but have no idea what to do.

The gutting thing is, that we are planning to completely move and redo it next year, as part of grand garden plans. I really don't want to lose everything, or spend a lot of money fixing it when we're about to change anything.

Can anyone suggest anything to help?
