How do you keep Travetine clean . I love Travetine but I been told it collects too much dirt and really hard to keep clean. I am remodelling my kitchen and I have picked an ivory tile with a few gray veins through it pretty. A tile guy came to my house to give me an estimate and he swears by Travetine.Making me think twice about it!! Also , does anyone know about putting a floating kitchen floor down before installing new tile? I am having old tile taken out and this installer puts a floating floor down!! He says it is a lot easy to level the floor this way. Advise would be greatly appreciated!

If it's properly sealed it should be very easy to take care of. My guy uses a 10 year sealer - swears I won't have to worry about it.

I would agree that a sealer is definitely required. Otherwise, I wouldn't consider travertine to be much more work to clean over other stone tiles. It's certainly not as easy as smooth ceramic, but not nearly the same look as well. The texture is one of the key features with travertine. The only advice I can give you regarding installation is to use a reputable installation company that will warrant their installation methods. I would be concerned if an installer is suggesting the 'easiest' method. How long will he stand behind any future cracking with his 'easy' method?
