So what do I do now?!

Last fall I clipped the last rose out of the garden and put it in a vase in a south-facing window. The flower itself only lasted a couple of days but the leaves stayed green so I just cut the dead part out and left the rest just to have something in the window. I've been marvelling that the leaves are STILL alive (all I've done all winter is put more water in when the level gets a little low.) I happened to take a real good look at it the other day. It's putting out roots!!! OK, so I guess I need to get it in a pot or something. Do I use potting soil or something else? I'm also assuming that I should let it be in the pot for at least a year before planting it in the garden? I'm just so excited; I've never had anything like this happen before.

Thanks for your help!
