The list is almost endless for that size shrub for full sun. The *perfect* shrub for you depends on a lot of factors, as others here will tell you. What is the soil like? Do you need something drought tolerant? With only perennials there, you will probably want something with fall and winter interest. Fothergilla 'beaver creek' is beautiful in the fall but it's not evergreen. Daphne 'carol mackie' is a cute variegated evergreen shrub that gets pink, fragrant flowers in summer. Hopefully others will offer some of their favorites.

If "Wine and Roses" is what you really have (as opposed to "Midnight Wine" which is a dwarf), then that is a shrub that can certainly go to 4ft or more (assuming it's not pruned) and just as wide once mature.

I transplanted a large (7 ft) laurel (don't know the variety) last spring and it's doing poorly. Fewer and fewer leaves, and brown spots..Is this rust, and what can be done? I have some fungus spray.

if you have full sun, you might want to consider an upright conifer. yearround appeal and a solid visual presence and foil for all the perennials.
