Something with purple leaves.

My main advice about these is nothing underneath whatsoever. They are grafted onto the species and continually want to sucker. You must continually remove the suckers, sometimes several feet from the main plant.

Another shortcoming, after the bloom, little interest. The hot, dry weather is here and the leaflets start to brown on the margins, by September they are pretty much defoliated. No fall color whatsoever.

By all means avoid anything with purple foliage unless you are designing a theme park or the bat cave :)
