My Japanese plum seeds sprouted!! Bought some Japanese plums in Seattle this year at the Japanese grocery store. Spendy, $10/lb, but I wanted to try and make some plum wine. Had some blemished plums, pulled out the pits and wrapped them up in a damp paper towel and put them in the fridge on 5/31/14. Forgot all about them until a few days ago. Pulled out the ziplock bag and all 4 seeds sprouted in the fridge!

First time doing anything like this, so thought I'd share. Just planted them. Will keep them indoors until spring. Not sure they'll ever produce anything, but kind of fun and interesting anyway!

Wow, they took 5 months to sprout??? How big were the sprouts when you remembered them? Show us a picture of them. Since I'm always forgetting things in the fridge, maybe I'll try that too.

I didn't think they would sprout in the fridge. I'd read that they needed to be stored there to simulate winter dormancy. Plus they came from the small green plums so I wasn't even sure they were developed enough to grow. Pic shows what they look like today. Been keeping them inside but just moved them outside to get some more light for the day.
