This plant is also the source of COCAINE (from the leaves) Even if you should find some beens the feds will be interested in your hobby

Surely you don't think that I'd be chewing on the leaves -- I'm only interested in a "chocolate fix".

I guess, that explains why I can't find any on the net. I suppose that only roasted (dead!) seeds can be legally sold.

I have a friend that teaches a class on chocolate and I know he has several plants (for demonstation puposes only, I'm sure). I'll have to ask him where he got his, then.

Thanks for enlightening me, georgez5il.

Cocaine is an alkaloid extracted from the coca (Erythroxylon Coca) plant. Contrary to common belief, it is not produced from the cacao plant that gives us chocolate (Theobroma Cacao).

Cocaine is not from the leafs of the chocolate(cacao) plant. They are two separate plants. I actually have a plant growing, and it is producing its first pod. I live in the Fiji Island, so maybe i could send you a few seeds.

Let me know if you ever found some seeds.

As ramazz and chowdan mentioned, coca and cacoa are totally different plants. Where I've seen coca grown was in high mountain regions of South America, and cacao grows at much lower elevations with warmer temps. Possibly you can grow coca at lower elevations, but I know you can't grow cacao outside in those high elevations as it's too chilly. I've seen cacao in Costa Rica in San Jose (about 3000' elevation), and that's probably about as high up as you're going to find it.

Theobromine is found in chocolate and the leaves of Theobroma cacao. It's effects are less than caffeine on humans, but both can be toxic to dogs.

Chowdan, make sure any seeds you send meet US ag. import requirements, you don't want to get Tempskya in trouble. Also, I've linked a GW thread by people who grow cacao - you might also try contacting one of them for viable seeds.

Here is a link that might be useful: GW cocoa growing discussion

Cacao is pretty much a Tropical plant, grows all over the place here in the Dominican Republic ( Cacao Exporting Country ) I have seen that some locals out in the "country" will place seeds out on tarps, that have been placed on the asphalt roads, to dry seeds. as for a source for seeds online, try : montosogardens.com they have "Theobroma cacao" seeds listed.
