Free Turtles to SoCal Locals

I give up..... My two red eared sliders are too much for my pond to handle. I have/had 3 tropical lilies and 3 hardy lilies and because I added two mature red eared sliders to the pond last year I have not seen any tropicals emerge this year and only two of my 3 hardy lilies managed to make it to the surface. I can count the total number of flowers I've had on 3 fingers...... Right now only one hardy lily is managing to send up leaves. All the others have the leaves nipped off when they are tender shoots......

I guess I'm not giving a very good sales pitch here am I......... None the less, if you are a local (I won't ship) and you want one or two red eared sliders (assuming I can catch the rascals) for the asking price of FREE, just let me know. I live in the Orange County area and don't mind delivering them if you are not too far away. I believe both are female.

It was pretty cool when I looked out the window and I saw this one laying several eggs this summer. If the eggs were fertile they should have hatched about a week ago and nothing yet. The photos are grainy because I didn't want to disturb her and I shot these through the window and screen....

To the local lake they go, lol, just kidding. If nobody takes I'm pretty sure pet shops will. You can also advertise on craigslist

I have two painted turtles and they don't bother my plants to the point of interfering with their natural growth. That's probably because I feed them. My yard was once full of dandelions, but now I have trouble locating any. That's because I throw them into the pond and the turtles love them. They will also eat a variety of fruits and vegetables along with reptile pellets from the pet store.

The problem I have with the reptile pellets is that the turtle need some time to get them down and my gold fish will take the pellets right out of the turtle's mouth.

Just my opinion, but turtles are the most fascinating creatures you can have in your pond.

Mikey, I hope I improved on your sale pitch. Most pet store turtles end up in an indoor environment with improper containment and lighting. Turtles need deep water to swim in and sunlight for their shell. I hope your's find a good home.

Mikey, I'm sure you won't do this but I gotta say it. Even though the poster above said they were kidding....

Taking them to a local lake is a very bad idea. They aren't native to California and they out compete native Western Pond Turtles for food and habitat which are now endangered.

Best of luck finding them a new home.

I'm reluctant to put them on Craig's List because one never knows if they will be cared for properly. Nearby is a man-made lake at the El Dorado Park Nature Center in Long Beach. They have lakes and streams and many red eared sliders call it home. I'm not sure if they were introduced by the city or by residents..... I left them a voice-mail message asking them if they can take them....

Someone from the same city I live in has volunteered to take the turtles.... YAY...

Now I have to figure out how to catch these rascals.....

If you still have the turtles available I would be interested in them. I'm looking for companions for my other red eared slider.

Sorry, but I no longer have any turtles. I have a friend who has several and he lives in Northhridge. I can contact him to see if he wants to give any away, assuming you are willing to drive to Northridge.
