That name may just be the anglicized form of the original Japanese cultivar name. Many of these selections have been around for years but not necessarily widely available in the US.

If you are interested in Japanese iris, I'd recommend checking out Ensata Gardens for a really impressive selection. Prices are much better than WFF as well.

there is an iris forum.. and there are a couple iris nuts over there.. who are real good at naming them ..

I have grown this iris for 10 years. It is fabulous. Big and ruffled but elegant. Blooming right now. Shortly after I bought mine, White Flower Farm pulled it after a few years because they couldn't maintain a supply. It loves our SC climate. Perhaps better suited to warmer climates? Happy to share. She's gorgeous
