Dry Stack Wall right on Ground?

Howdy...

I made a raised garden, 30 feet by 10 feet, a few years ago by dry stacking fieldstone. I dug a trench and put crushed stone and quarry dust before building the wall. Wall is about 15 inches tall and is extremely solid.

I have about a pallet of fieldstone left over and I was thinking of building a smaller raised garden right up against the house. Maximum height will be about 8 to 10 inches at its' highest point, about 4 inches at it's lowest. I was wondering if it would be a mistake to build this one without the stone and dust base.

Thanks!

Ken
