Make sure the epsom salts are well dissolved before adding to the tank. I had a fantail last year that bloated up but didn't pinecone. I used the epsom salts and heated the tank also fed metromeds which she ate and cooked peas. It took almost a month but the bloating finally went away after she pooped out a very long white stringy thing which may have been gas or eggs not sure. She's an aquarium fish so has never spawned. You'll have to watch the water parameters carefully. I think I did the epsom salts thing every 3 days. Patti
