between garden walk stones

Several years ago I had a winding 2' wide path installed with med-lg thick slabs of stone (1-1/2 to 2" thick) over compacted soil. The stones have done very well but each year I have to hand weed between the stones several times during the warmer months - yuck! and bad on my old knees. Path is 100' long. This year the 'clover' stalks really were horrendous. Moss grows in some spots as the path has various levels of light, but the weeds still invade, as it winds around.

Thyme won't work with limited light. Spaces between stones can be anywhere from 1/2" to almost 2 full inches.

I searched this forum and while lots of posts appeared, they are several years old and answers didn't seem to address my particular problem.

The only think I can come up with is mulch and try to pack it down in the spaces.....shrubs are too close to the stones to use a vegatation 12 month product/killer.

Can anyone relate their experience or offer alternatives? I'm in CT so have 4 seasons.
