I know that this material designed to allow some flexibility for frost freeze cycles and inhibit insect and weed development between cracks. I'm only familiar with it for pavers which usually have 1/8 inch gaps. I have no idea if it is a good choice for a walkway with larger gaps. It is also 2-3 times the price of jointing sand, but it will not need to be replaced/refilled as frequently as jointing sand.

If you use a polymeric sand, please post your results. We'd really like photos too.

My understanding is that this works for closely laid flat surfaces. A bag locally was quoted at $65.00, so I'd sure want to try it on a smaller area before investing. It might not work. There's a Florida contractor with a large website with many photos but all of the installations with the polymeric sand are paving with consistently standard-size pavers.

the brand i used was stone mason and was bought at a Menards. 40 pounds, and i was thinking less than ten bucks.

it turned out great (in my opinion.) but i have to say the contracter that originally put it down did use a lime stone and mortar first. but that was VERY crumbly and looked awful. so in spots, that would be a sort of underlayment, but in other spots it had washed away.

we've only had an approximate six hour nice shower, but it held up nice. i'm sure a downpour will cause problems. that remains to be seen.

it set up great, but, remember, it is sand, so it will need touched up I'm sure.

but it does look darn nice!
