It probably depends on the type of limestone wall you have. Is it in formal or informal setting?

I've had the same question running through my mind as I've been building a fire pit and patio with a stone retaining wall. There's a thread here called "Fire Pit and Patio Construction with pictures of my wall. Since my wall is informal and set in the woods, I'm leaning towards making benches out of a log sawed in half set on two shorter log pieces. I don't know if it will look good, but that's my plan.

I apologize for being so slow to reply, Jugglerguy. Sometimes life gets complicated. I loved the pictures of your fire pit. Split logs would be perfect in your wooded setting. My wall in more formal, in the front and side yard of an Arts and Crafts house in a fairly stuffy subdivision. The wall looks like it is laid dry, but it isn't. It is about 6 feet tall in colors of tan and gold. We have an aluminum bench stained dark brown that looks better in the garden than by the wall. We priced a stone bench by our stone masons-- $800. I don't think so. I wish I could try out different benches or see pictures. I'm suffering from a failure of the imagination.
