What propane heater do you have?

What propane heater with thermostat do you use in your zone 5 greenhouse? We have a 10 x 12 HFG.

Did a search online, this is what I found. Anyone use this one?

Empire Direct Vent. Had it for 2 years now and even in a wet environment it's been good. We've had some surface rust, and the unit itself wasn't cheap, but it has worked well and we heat to roughly 60F all winter in Zone 4.

I would be looking at a mr. heater big buddy 18000btu or something similiar for a 10' x 12' these will adjust from 4000 to 18000 btu and dont require electricity. John

I would be inclined to split your rooms as to functions. One would be the television room for television watching and media. More the "den/family room". The other would be a conversation reading, talking, "living room". Not sure what kind of room you have where the Christmas tree is, but given that the fireplace is not there, if there's room, that might be a good place for the "tv/den" area. Since you have the fireplace in the other room, it would be nice if you could possibly do it, to have the fireplace be the focal point of the room and the place where people could enjoy the fireplace, talk, read, etc. It would make arranging furniture easier as well. You could focus the furniture just facing the television in the "tv/den" room and the furniture just focusing the fireplace in the room with the fireplace. Good luck!

Wow guess I should have checked this earlier or change my notifications.... Sorry I'm new to Houzz. Love the interaction everyone is having here. Den of Interiors nailed a lot of good points on her comments, thanks you saved me a lot of typing. I would like to add that a well constructed pond has hiding spots for fish to have a safe haven to duck inside. I learned that from my first pond/heron event and have been constructing them for the past 28 years with a hiding spot. I usually try to keep it close to the waterfalls, they seem to like it down there. Someone mentioned their pond freezes SOLID.... I've yet to see a pond freeze solid. You might get a solid sheet of ice across the pond, but not entirely top to bottom with ice. Here is a pic I snapped of another predator that can get into your pond

I would invest in moving the TV to its own wall and give the heater the current TV wall. You have the stairwell and the current sofa wall where you could install connections. I think there would be room to angle the chair where you now have the heater if the heater was centered on that green wall. TV on stairwell and sofa as is. Please do adjust all your art - free hanging pieces at 5' above the floor, those with furniture 5" above it and keep the width of any piece within 75% of the furniture's width it's hanging above. If they're the same size, try your 3 white matted pieces together stacked vertically where the single one is now by the door. The center of the vertical grouping should be 5' above the floor. That should take care of interest on that side of the room without actually hanging anything above the stove. Put a larger landscape or such with the sofa.

Convert old heater to use propane

The fireplace in one of my bedrooms had a heater insert that used natural gas. I was not able to use it because existing codes do not allow open flame heaters in homes any more. When I removed it, I discovered that the firebox is sized for coal burning and the cost to renovate the firebox and chimney to burn wood is prohibitive. My question is this: How can I upgrade the heater to bottled propane so I can use it on my deck/gazebo? When I remove the chimney from this fireplace, I'll have lots of bricks to make an enclosure for the heater. The heater has a lot of brass accents and should look great when it's polished up a bit. I think it will be the highlight (pun intended) of the whole outside room if I can convert it safely.

I have the same HFGH and heat it with one Southern Burner C1 vented propane heater. It works great and they have a long history in the greenhouse industry. http://www.southernburner.com/ I installed this myself in an afternoon hooked up to two 100lb bottles. It didn't even use a full bottle this past spring running from March 1 thru April.

If anyone is interested here is the price that I got back from Glenn at Southern Burner. The model C-1 equipped with the single stage thermostat sells for $429.00 plus $42.00 S&H.
Not sure if we are ready to pay that much for a back-up heater.
We are thinking of getting the Mr. Buddy Portable propane heater for the few hrs back-up. We'll see what happens.
What we will have in the greenhouse is hosta seedlings.

I have the empire direct vent 35K btu heater. Has been wonderful.

Last Saturday it was -21Ã¯Â¿Â½ and the greenhouse was at 65Ã¯Â¿Â½.

I keep my greenhouse at about 60-65Ã¯Â¿Â½ night time temps and it can do it no problem.

I have a well insulated Rion 8x16.
