Joy, if you put your babies in the direct sun in that little greenhouse, you will boil them. Bright light is ok, but NO DIRECT SUNLIGHT. Keep them in the 55-degree temps until you plant them in their permanent place - this temp will keep them from growing too fast and getting 'leggy'.

Good point KayJones- You don't want to fry those babies-
But it could also be that the seeds she is trying to germinate do best with No light as some seeds do prefer- Other seeds actually need light to help them germinate- and some need warmer day temps with cooler evenings to trip their germination switch, and some need a period of cold before they will germinate.
I wonder where the directions came from- was it the seed packet, the growing medium or the container itself? I have put plastic containers in the sun and have had them melt- may be it was just that the containers can't take the heat....
I try to stay with the seeds germination requirements and leave the other "rules" behind.

I also started seedlings and I think I am doing it all wrong. I bought pansy seeds (they are just sprouting now), love in a mist, black-eyed susans, and more.

I planted most of my seeds in tiny peat pots and put them on a tray with no protection, they get a couple of hours of sunlight a day as I have them near my sliding glass doors. It's still cold here on Long Island.

Should I be covering them?
