Greenhouse in use

Here are a couple of pictures taken today of my hfgh in use at this time.

{{gwi:288346}}
Lettuce, and cut and come again greens in a tub

Seedlings in 1" pots (on heat mat)

It is great fun starting plants early. It has been quite warm the last few days, and we've even had to open up the greenhouse, but it is due to turn cold and rainy tommorrow for a few days. Anyone else started seedlings? Jim

Don't be surprised if someone in Zone 3,4 or 5 takes out a "contract" on you for posting those pictures.

I have a tray of very tall lettuce in the kitchen at the moment. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!

Ah, northern coastal California is great for winter growing in the greenhouse, but I can't get those hot weather crops in summer to ripen really well (ever seen a 60 day corn take 150 days?) I do enjoy living here in rainy northern Cal though especially with my greenhouse. Jim

Here are two more pictures taken today (early am). One shows the seedlings from the previous photo, and you can still see the lettuce growing well. Ah, California! Jim

Jim, do NOT make me come down there an Biatch Slap you! ;)

    no seriously, very nice greenhouse.

The more pictures I see of these HFGH greenhouses, the more tempted I am to dump our hoop house for one of those.

The main thing holding me back is that once those are up, I don't think it's easy to take down in the spring and put up again in the fall. The hoop house is very easy to do this and to remove the 4 center legs to open the whole thing up.

But temptation is certainly there! :)

You're right, blondboy, it isn't the kind of thing you'd want to take down every summer. Since mine will be in the high, dappled shade of a very large oak tree, I'm going to try what another HFGH owner mentioned and in the summer replace the side panels with screen panels, leaving the roof glazing in place. A squirrel-free place to start seedlings? Mosquito-free place to sit outdoors ... even in the rain? Not sure yet ... will see how it evolves. Right now I'm enjoying what this little greenhouse has to offer in winter.

oh now THAT's a great idea!

DAMN! the temptation rises! ROFL! ;)

HD or Lowes sells parts for screen construction Blondboy. They work great and they're held in with clips just like the polycarb panels.

Do I have something set up wrong in IE to not be able to see the pics in this thread?

I'm not sure how the whole thing works to see the pictures, bomber. Maybe someone with more experience will chime in. Jim

    Jim:

    Check these settings:

First, in IE, go to Tools, Internet Options; click on Advanced.

    Scroll down to "Multimedia"

Here's how I have mine set and everything works fine:
    INDICATORS:
    > means check marked
    X means no check mark

    > Enable Automatice Image Resizing
    > Enable Image Toolbar (requires restart)
    > Play animations in web pages
    > Play sounds in web pages
    > Play Videos in web pages
X show image download placeholders (NO CHECK MARK)
    > Show Pictures
    > Smart image dithering

    Hope that helps.

Blondboy, thanks for the tutorial! The settings you mentioned are the ones I have also. So, bomber, I think that is the first place to try. Let us know how it works, cause the pictures are fun to see. Jim

I read your name Jim and I must have scrolled, so I thought that it was you with the problem.
