sunglo greenhouse

Hello again

I have been doing more research and I found a Sunglo Expert at costco. It has everything from an electric panel to trays. It's price is about the same as the Rigo. The Sunglo has an acrylic glazing while the Rigo has the polycarbonate. I would appreciate some input as to the advantages /disadvantages of each. And does anyone have experience with Sunglo?

I cannot wait to get started, but I don't want to have a bad experience.

Thanks!

acrylic glazing is troublesome, it can & does crack, pressure points can chip and crackit will move with the ebb of tempeture, expanding and contracting giving rise to distorted panels, it is beautiful new as it is as transparent as glass, but will dull over time. the polycarbonate beats it hands down. most all rigid solars are poly plus you can get poly double wall panels that help with heating and sweating.

    Thanks for the info.
The panels are corrigated 1 1/2 inch thick with a 3r value. Is this the type of acrylic you are speaking about?

One con to poly carbonate is reduced light. The more panels you add the greater the reduction in sunlight. You may also want to review Sunglo's video on it's strength durability tests. A poly carb panel cracked in half under the same test.

When we bought our greenhouse it came down to the Riga vs Sunglo. We went with Riga and couldn't be more pleased. They are pretty similar and I don't have great reasons for why I picked one over the other. I like the look of the Riga, which is important since our greenhouse is right next to our house. I also did not like that the fans and everything are integrated into the Sunglo. For some reason I wanted to add those items myself, so that I could set up the greenhouse to use as little energy as possible.

I've had no complaints with the twinwall polycarbonate. The Riga has more airspace between the walls than many similar models. We had a huge hailstorm last year and it did suffer some cracks and dents, but then again, so did every car and house in town!

Happy shopping. It is exciting to put together a plan!

Thank you for the follow-up. I'm in the same position trying to choose between the Sunglo and Riga. I live just down the road from the US Riga distributor located in Austin, TX who is offering discounted prices off retail. One of the pros I noticed with the Sunglo was it comes fully outfitted with shelves, auto vents and exhaust fans. However I've been looking at the Riga IV and V models. The comparable sized Sunglo seems to be more expensive but may be a wash when you had the same options to the Riga. Still shopping and trying to make up my mind.

Yes, they are pretty similar in price. The optional shelves that come with the Riga are very nice and are a clever design which leave the floor totally clear if you wish to plant into the ground. The Rigas also have the auto vents and we added extras. The fact that the Sunglo has the vents and fan integrated is a good thing in that you won't have to fuss around and figure that out on your own. I guess you probably can't go too far wrong with either one.

Did you search this forum for Sunglo and Riga? I agree that getting impressions from others is essential. I wonder if the Costco website has any user reviews?

I've been searching the forums, google and every place else I can think of. There just don't seem to be many "personal first hand" reviews. A couple of sponsored sites where you know there getting a kick back for their ratings. I've located a new Riga V with the optional base, one top and one bottom shelf for $4316 delivered. Does that sound like a fair deal?

I am currently searching for a Riga III greenhouse and am looking for comments concerning stability in harsh Ohio winters. Specifically, if down the road, the Riga holds up well through severe seasons
