I don't know what you mean by module unless you are starting them indoors in containers. The reason you'd remove one then is to give room for one to grow.

We direct sow in the garden. My husband digs a shallow trench and fills it with water and lets it soak into the ground Then he plants the corn 6 inches apart. The rows are about 2 1/2 feet apart. You must have more than 1 row for good pollination.

We grow "Fleet" a bicolor supersweet variety with an early maturation date. We've grown this variety for the last 4 years and it is imply the best corn we've every grown.

We live in zone 3 in northern Ontario Canada and always have a good crop of corn

Old farmers sometimes planted sweetcorn in ''hills''. Usually 3-4 seed. I don't recall any thinning. They didn't give kids a reason. In retrospect I suspect this planting was for good pollination while allowing space to plant vines like watermelon.

I live 3 hrs south of Chicago and we raise an acre of sweet corn and we are very passionate about it, cuz we sell it from our farm and the customers LOVE it. We plant it about 7-8 inches apart in 30 inch rows using a big planter. If you can, plant it right into warm soil, where it can sprout and just keep on growing!!! You don't have to plant it indoors unless you want to get a good head start on the season for some reason; not everyone has 90 days of warm weather. Just curious, why do you want to plant it in modules? Sweet corn loves hot weather and will do well if it has plenty of warm weather and moisture... We plant in early May and sell for two weeks in mid to late July, two different varieties (one comes on for 6 days; we pick it all, then the other one matures and we pick it all).
