I have a few plants in pots and I am trying to figure out where to put them. My back yard has several very tall thin pine trees that cast a light shadow over about half of the yard, with several spots of direct sun that move throughout the day. The other half of the yard has some direct sun.

For several reasons, I would prefer to put my plants (mostly full sun requirement plants) in the shadier half of the lawn. But I DO want them to thrive, and it would be prohibitive to move the pots around all day (as I have seen some recommend). When it gets hot outside, the "shade" cast by these trees is very little relief for a human wanting some shade!

The question: Do my tall skinny pine trees cast my yard into the partial shade category?
