A rat trap with peanut butter. It works great

I don't know if it's too late to add my two cents...but here it goes. We had trouble with them in the yard once, then later in the garage. We of course like everyone else nowadays, turned to the internet. We tried stuff like the fox urine pellets and some other recipe as well (can't remember it), but none of them worked.

It started in the yard. Eventually one hole turned into multiple holes, three of which were around the foundation of the house. Then we found one in the garage. We left the door open thinking that it would just run out. Well, appearently, it had tried to chew it's way out buy chewing on the plastic strip at the bottom of the door and made a hole for itself. By then, it decided that it liked our garage and decided to stay. That's when we turned to the one solution that was supposed to be quite effective, but very cruel imo.

Here it goes.
You fill a 5 gallon bucket half way with water.
Put a plank leading up to the top.
Chipmunk runs up to feed it's curiosity and takes a dive.
Then because they can't get out and are poor swimmers, they die.
If they get too smart some people suggest floating sunflower seeds or a plastic bag on top of water.

I know it sounds mean......we only tried it because it was now under our roof. We found evidence of it trying to chew through drywall into the house. Started, but didn't get through. Sooooo we set the rig up one night. We checked on it in the morning and there it was. A water treading chipmunk. I sent the hubby to take it to the edge of the community and yes it was alive and kicking when he let it go.

It worked a second time in the yard. This time we didn't get to putting the water in. We just put the bucket out there and it caught another.

Final word, if you hate the idea of killing them, try putting plank up to a 5 gallon bucket and see if you catch it that way to relocate it. If that doesn't work for you or you have the stomach for possible having to get rid of the body, try it with the water.

Some people reported to catch numerous chipmunks this way in a very short period of time.

Update, that other solution I couldn't remember was a castor oil solution. You can do a search for the recipe if you want to try it. It did not work for us in the yard.

You don't need a Jack Russell, most dogs will be happy to clear them out for you. My mixed breed herding dog has gotten three or four chipmunks, but only one rabbit.

Borrow the neighbors dog if you don't have one. Some folks say chipmunks can ruin your foundation, although I'm not quite sure how.
