heating soil

Ok, I have a question that I know most of you will probably think is obvious but since I am new to this I will ask some pros...

My DH has a greenhouse he has been using for propagation of shrubs/trees. He does not have the heat that high maybe 55-60 which runs at night b/c during the days the fans have to cool it off in our area. This year I wanted to take advantage of this and grow annuals and vegetables. Well HE MADE me 2 table that have pipe running under the wires and one with the pipe in the table and the dirt in it. I have started some seeds and the soil temp is getting quite high during the day and we have the heat under the tables cut off. I think it was 80 yesterday during the hottest part of the day and we turn the water heater on at night and it maintains about 74. If we have the soil this warm is it necessary to turn the heat up at night. My DH has had it cranked up to like 70 which is going to use all the gas. Thank you for your help! I am thinking I should have just started them in my laundry room again to avoid all the drama...LOL!!
