Help Pruning an Older Lilac Bush into a Lilac Tree

Please help me prune my older lilac bush into a Lilac tree.

I have narrowed the Bush down to a few trunks but I'm not sure which one I should choose to make the main trunk for the future tree.

Do you think it is best to narrow it down To one trunk (I prefer that) or should I leave it as a dual truck tree.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

PS. I'm in zone 6b. South Central Pennsylvania near Gettysburg.

i would have dug up on of the suckers... that you already pruned off... and started that as a tree form ....

with all the branches you cut to 8 inches or so ... i sont know how much luck you will have with this ... this bush sucker magnificently over the last decade.. i dont know if you can ... NOW. .. turn it into a tree form ...

but do try.. just keep at it ... just play whack a mole.. smack down whatever pops up ...

oh... why not a specimen with 3 trunks???

I always wanted a tree so many years ago my husband bought me a lilac topiary. I;m sure the top is grafted to a large standard lilac. The flowers are small but extremely fragrant.
