There is a spot in my backyard which lies right in front of our pool equipment wall. This is the closest picture I have of it

basically that 'creeper' plant marks the mid spot of the length of it. Now that picture was taken a while back when the flowers were doing ok, but being that this is my mother's garden, she doesn't enjoy gardening as I do so when I moved to another state, the garden went to s%*t.

Now there was a random palm tree that just started growing this year (just to the left of the creeper :( ), and what I thought was just a little single palm, turned out to have incredibly wide and large roots. Well while getting it out of there, I came across what I can only describe as a snake like root that runs horizontally, instead of down and I have no idea what it belongs to or where it starts or ends...and I suppose I can dig it up, but I'd cause all kinds of damage because I'd be uprooting the bulbs that are currently in there along with all the hollyhocks that have reseeded every year there and do so nicely. So my question is... do I chop up the roots as I can, not getting the entire thing out, or do I need to get it out because besides being invasive, it is also likely sucking up the water needed for the other plants and being that it's Arizona, water in the garden can get scarce. I'll be really sad to see all the bulbs and seeds get damaged but do I have a choice?
