First, I would not be using it in the garden. I would take the cuttings to some work area. After treatment the cuttings should be placed in some rooting medium and given some tender care which they are unlike to get in the garden.

Most instructions say to pour a little bit of the powder into a container, dip the cutting, shake of the surplus and discard it. I am not sure that outside the professional usage the discard is absolutely necessary but because of the widespread suggestion to discard the surplus I would not recommend someone else keeping it like I do.

Gels and liquids are quite popular among hobbyists but I have no experience with these.

Thanks for the response. I know that everyone recommends using a special soil for rooting cuttings but I just haven't found a very good place to do this. I don't have a greenhouse and there isn't a place in the house with enough light. If I pot them up in the garden, it seems that I would just be taking them out to plant in the garden so soon (before the winter here -zone 5.) Or is this what I should do? Hmmm. Any more thoughts on it?

I do so hope that some of these things I'm trying to propagate come out OK!
