Keep in mind that DE is not selective and will kill earthworms and benefical incects. Think of the butterflys!

There is much misinformation in the original post, I am sorry to say. First of all, the kind of DE that is used for swimming pools is processed in such a way that is not likely to cause problems for slugs and certainly not for insects. It is also a CANCER causing agent, and all precautions must be taken not to breathe it in. Silicosis is the issue.

Use the horticultural or food grade DE for all garden purposes, NEVER pool grade. This form of DE should also be handled with care and never inhaled. Funny, we can (and do) ingest this stuff through the mouth, but you can't inhale it into your lungs.

Horticultural grade DE can be found in garden centers, not in pool supply locations. Be very careful about what you buy; the product will be clearly labeled.

awesome way to kill slugs! its very entertaining take a spray bottle, fill the bottom with amonia or however its spelled about prolly a third of the way up and fill the rest with water and spray it on the devils! they will dies instanly!!!! Ive only tried it on some of my petunias I havent tried it on any other plant so i do not know... i just know it worked on my petunias i saw it on tv.
Then for slugs eating ur cabbage take self rising flower sprinkle it all over the cabbage and when the slugs eat em in the after noon POP! THEY ARE GONE!!!!!!!

also to direct the underground devils from eating roots of your plants take a potatoe u get from the store divide it into 2 and plant it in the ground then at the end of the week dig it up then stomp those buggers to death!
