That is a good idea, I have been using the gentle cycle on my washing machine. Leaving the lid up on the spin cycle so it doesn't rip them to shreds. After there done, run a couple of cyles on rinse to clean the tub.

Trudyjean is on the right road. Use netting, like the bags onions come in, put the turnip or mustard greens in them, tu=ie the top and pop'em in the washing machine on gentle cycle. You can clean lots of greens that way. Then just blanche them in boiling water, bag'em in zip lock bags and freeze.

Do any of y'all eat mustard green salad fixed like we do? Wash your mustard and rough chop. Chop up some green onions and throw into the greens. Fry some bacon and then crumble it into the salad. Drizzle the bacon grease over the salad and serve, salt and pepper to taste, toss. It is so good and you can hear that bacon grease cloggin up those arteries - glug, glug, glug.

Sometimes I let 'em dry out a tad and shake the excess off 'em. OR, I try to pick up after a nice rain if possible. I couldn't risk washing dirt off in the washer, and don't relish the idea anyhoo, but I applaud it!
Lastly, if you don't have a lot of chemicals on your garden or nearby ( and I suspect you don't)... don't sweat a teeny bit of soil... here in SE Ohio, when someone gets sick, we say "Darn, looks like they didn't get their peck of dirt!" Some good dirt is good fer ya!
