I too like the look of Quickfire and the longer blooming cycle. There are several others like it with that type of flower head. They bascailly don't droop because of the density of the bloom.

If you desire a bloom like Limelight or Vanilla Strawberry, then go with Hydrangea paniculata 'Bokrathirteen'. Its by far a superior cultivar. All others like it are obsolete in my opinion unless you need a huge cultivar that gets 8' tall.

SWEET SUMMER is a compact cultivar that typically grows to 4-5' tall. It was selected in 2006 from an ongoing breeding program in Boskoop, the Netherlands involving unnamed seedlings of Hydrangea paniculata. SWEET SUMMER is noted for producing dense, broad-conical panicles (to 5" long) of mostly sterile flowers that emerge white in summer but change to light pink. Flowers at the base of the panicles change from white to pink while new white flowers are still emerging at the indeterminate panicle tips. Strong stiff stems hold the flower panicles upright with no drooping. The much smaller fertile flowers are hidden beneath the showier, sterile ones.

green_go, it's 'Little Bas', a type 3 prune that I got from Brushwood. Unfortunately the voles ate it during the winter of 13-14, and though I hoped all season that it would return. It didn't, so I ordered another this spring. I really love the combination, but it wasn't really planned. I was just sort of trying a bunch of different clematis on different shrubs to see what worked.

I am happy to say that the original Clematis 'Little Bas' returned after a 3 year hiatus; most likely it just was small after the voles ate much of it what was left was hidden by the surrounding shrubs. This year I saw it blooming at the top of the H. 'Quickfire' again, much to my delight since by the time I got a replacement LB clematis, there wasn't space to plant it next to that QF and I ended up planting it next to a H. 'White Diamond' instead.
