Simplicity Snow Away 9-28"

I bought this used a few weeks ago. The first time I used it the auger quit working because the spring at the bottom of the control linkage had broken. In the process of replacing it I noticed a nest of tie wire under the cover at the top where the controls are...ordered more parts, waited another week and finally got it all reassembled and it now seems to work.
NOW I need help with the drive.
When engaged the machine pulls to the right as if the left wheel is the only one working. I've moved the lynch pin on the right wheel to see if that made any difference...it doesn't. If I were to take my hands off the machine while it's moving I believe it would spin in a circle to the right. I haven't taken any covers off to have a look and would like any input I could get before starting this project.
Also, there are supposed to be 5 forward speeds and 2 reverse but it needs to be in 3rd gear to move forward.
It appears to be a good machine and I really want it to be 100%...for safety if nothing else. Thanks for any advice.
