Greenhouse sources?

I have been doing some research thinking about building or buying a professional quality GH. Anyone have some suggestions for websites for information on best vs worst materials etc. Glass vs plastic and what type plastics, estimated heating and cooling cost. Also some manufactures or sales sources?

I had a garden for years but not the last two, due to low plant production. I believe my soil was the issue. Well now the “garden” is a bunch of weeds... so I do not want to plant there unless I put down some sort of barrier (Im going with a raised bed garden so I can more easily control soil quality). I want everything to be organic and heard landscaping fabric is not. I know some gardeners use food grade plastic but I haven’t found any in small quantities and it seems to cost over $50 - not every budget friendly! My questions are: 1) how deep should my bed be (typically grow peppers, cud’s, zucchini, beans and tomatoes) - easiest build is 10.5 inches but heard I should go with 12”? suggestions on what to put under my bed if building over previous garden? another option I heard of is to place raised bed over existing grass which will break down and be beneficial. Do you agree? Just afraid of getting lots of weeds again! Thanks for your help!

Most of the rooms added at that time do not have the benefit of newer technology. I just added a conservatory room onto my home that is all glass and nothing for an artist is better than proper sunlight. So here are a few things I learned from the experience to make it habitable. (1) get with your local conservatory company that installs Four Season Sunrooms as that is what this is. Since you have the foundation, already, they may have ideas on how to update this space. If you decide to keep it you will need (1) a skylight window that electronically opens so the heat can escape in the summer (2) a split system that will heat and cool the space separate from your regular system. (3) window tinting on the roof to keep the heat out in the summer and the heat from escaping in the winter. I live in a colder climate and the one mistake I made was to not put a heating source under my tile. I would also install the drip line during construction for the split. Lastly loose the hot tub and use it as living space. If you want to "get rid of it" yes you can go to an architect but I would get ideas from multiple sources. I installed large rectangular gage slate tiles in my conservatory from Home Depot - so there are ways to do it without spending a fortune. One last thing, in many areas laws are now in place that prevent these kinds of additions from being installed with a heating & cooling system, so check your local code requirements. One last thing - the caulk that Four Season uses is not suitable in all climates - your installer may have to use another caulk which will add to the cost.

I do and I love it. I'm sitting in it this morning as I do every single morning since I got it. No mosquitos, no bugs and I have the best view of the lake! Don't let my comments discourage you they were meant to help from everything I learned. I used gauged slate tiles from Home Depot for the floor and put in a stamped concrete patio outside with a fire pit. Everyone goes to the conservatory over the family room once it is put in. Do try to put it in near the kitchen and make it long enough that you can put a dining table in it. In the summer when I have a party I move the two chairs and sofa to the garage and put a long dining table in it. It is magical! Again, go larger not smaller. The conservatory should follow some basic architecture principles, like the rule of thirds which is a proportion rule. I originally was going to build a much smaller structure until I had the builder string it off and looked at it from the back of the house and it looked like a pimple on my house. We then marked it off based on the rule of 1/3rd, it suddenly all fell into place. Yes I could have gone a bit smaller, but we had other considerations like existing windows to contend with along with existing roof line. I have one true regret - I waited to put it in until the right time - if I could do it over again, I would have put it in at least a decade sooner. Life is too short and this is my sanctuary. And sorry for the typos apparently my "s" key is sticking on my IPad keyboard. If you have further questions, I try to help. A bespoke or custom conservatory is beautiful, but in my area I could not justify the additional expense at resale. Take your time looking!

I got mine from Jaderloon in South Carolina and have been very happy with it. Twin wall polycarb on a galvanized steel frame.

It's about time other manufacturers get a piece of the action. Why buy a HFGH and have to do all the modifications to it. Just buy quality in the first place.

I have had a Rion greenhouse for over 4 yr. now, and very happy with it. Just put in Rion greenhouse in a seach window for more info. We studied all the greenhouses for over a yr. before we decided on that brand. It was installed in a few hrs. by hubby and our son. We have heat in the winter for it, it is with a fan, and then a small heater, and I think it costs about $5.00 a mo. to heat, and it is a bigger size one. I think it is the material it is made of. Right now, with the weather warming up to 55, inside the greenhouse, with the heat turned off, it gets to 85 plus. I just wish it were bigger now. I have tons of items in it all ready for spring. I hope you find the greenhouse of your dreams.

Grow-anything, I spent a long time planning mine, and did lots of lurking in this forum in that time. The longer I planned the bigger it got in my head. I ended up going with Jaderloon because I spend lots of time in my greenhouse and will be using it year round, so I wanted some features I couldn't find in the less expensive HFGH and Rions, in particular relatively high side wall heights, heating and cooling systems for North Carolina, a frame that supports a large footprint without central supports, and more widely spaced supports (6' vs 2'). Those are things I found in companies that make commercial greenhouses. One trade off is that it took longer to put up -- my husband did all of that but it took several months. Part of that was foundation work and running all the utilities, but the company was great with respect to technical support as we built it. I'll definitely have higher utility costs using it year round, but it will be worth it. Depending on what size you're looking for and how you're planning to use it, you might think about looking at school or institutional greenhouse packages from commercial suppliers, like I did.

Bought one last spring and it's great. We just had a horrible storm come through New England a week or so back. Very hight winds and tons of rain. A local town clocked the winds at 91 MPH and the greenhouse did wonderful No issues. BC's service is top notch. Cannot say enough about them. We bought a Cape Cod and had no issues with snow. The steep pitch caused the snow to slide right off.
