Snapper Tecumseh Snowblower Drive Wheels Won't Turn

I have an 10hp Snapper with a Tecumseh Engine. The drive wheels will rotate when off the ground but once they come in contact with the ground they more or less stop. When the snowblower gets into snow and gets under load the wheels turn just fine but once the snow is gone the wheels fail to rotate again. Any ideas?

Usually a slipping drive is something such as worn drive disc or a belt slipping as it is worn or needs a control adjustment, handles tightened etc. You may just need to pull the covers and see what's going on. Watch over things like springs and bearing wear whilst you are inside. Maybe the wheels turn while in the snow because the front moves easier in the snow- less friction on the skids. Official guess there... Let us know what you find.

TomPlum Said it all, any of those things can affect the Drive system. I had one in the shop last night and it was only a matter of a couple of turns and the machine now goes in reverse and 1st gear, very happy customer.
