A Good, Sharp Shovel?

After a dig fest in the yard I was hosing & WD-40ing my shovels off and this phrase popped into my head. I can't remember when or from whom I heard this. It could have come to me in a dream. Whomever may have said axe and I was holding a shovel at the time.

Do any of you folks sharpen shovels? How? Why? How often? I can't imagine it making a difference except in cutting through twig roots or maybe cutting through sod. I've never bought a shovel that was pre-sharpened from the factory.

While I am not afraid of shovels I admit I try to leave them alone, especially the cordless ones.
