I think it's a type of Asplenium nidus, birds nest fern.

Jen

Thanks, tjsangel, but I'm pretty sure it is not an asplenium nidus. I have several types of asplenium, and this is different. This does not have a center point. It crawls along on a rhizome. It also feels like a succulent.

Anna

Either it's a succulent or it's a fern, it can't be both. You can't have a succulent fern.

"You can't have a succulent fern."

I hate generalizations ;-)

Here is a link that might be useful: Succulent Fern

I think it is a fern, but it definitely has a succulent feel to it. It seems very unusual. Thanks.

Anna

Touche, Chris! You know what I meant.

Looks like a semi-crested form of Polypodium polycarpon (which does, indeed, have somewhat succulent foliage; and "succulent" is an adjective, not just a noun).

Joe

Joe, the polypodiums look interesting, but I think they are a bit too divided at the tips. Two other suggestions I've had on another forum are microsorum punctata and pyrrosia lingua 'hiryu'. I believe it could be one of those two... but which?

1. Not all Polypodium polycarpons are divided at the tips (hence the name "fishtail").

2. It's definitely not a Pyrrosia lingua. Much different look overall.

3. I think the best bet now just might be a selection of Microsorum punctatum (highly variable from what I see).
