Solidago caesia. It's the only species up there that blooms along the stem at each leaf axil.

But not in Mn, so I read.

If your woodland is on the dry side it might be Solidago hispida?

It's always been dry here. The stem does have a hairy feel to it, but not excessive.

Do you grow flexicaulis or ulmifolia? Those 2 are nice. I had 1 caesia that I loved and I killed it by moving it. Stiff Goldenrod seems to be common up there. Prairie Moon Nursery has Mayflower seeds available. Do you have the groundcover Cornus canadensis in your woods? I'll have look up it's new hard to remember name. Chamaepericlymenum canadensis. Doesn't exactly roll off the tongue.

I just discovered last year that I had a nice patch of S. flexicaulis. Finding the

S.hispida makes for a nice combo. I am definitely going to propagate them.

Everybody was bashing me after I cut down all my Oak trees(50) and since then its turned into a jungle of new species popping up here and there. I planted Balsam fir and some are now 20' tall. Paper Birch popped up too.

I checked out my river recently and discovered a dozen tall Iron Weed with their shimmering bright purple flowers. The Monarch butterflies are migrating now and they were hanging out on the Iron weed.

I have a lot of Mayflower and last year I potted some up for you, but they didn't survive in the pot. I'm trying again. Maybe next Spring there will be a surprise.

I do not have Bunch Berry but I've seen it around. It's on my transplant list.

I've never seen Leafcup but do have Prenanthes. It pops up here and there.

The Elm-leaved Goldenrod looks very nice too.

Vernonia, Iron Weed.

That Vernonia gigantea is beautiful. I love the red stems. Vernonia missurica is up there too and I read that the 2 species sometimes hybridize. I lost all my Liatris mysteriously, so the big Monarch magnet this year is New York Ironweed, Vernonia noveboracensis.

I germinated a bunch of Mo. Ironweed last year and they haven't bloomed yet. They are a lot smaller so they can go into various places next year.

My Liatris didn't germinate this year. Don't know why. I can get seed at the RR track.

My river front is a riot of big yellow things right now. I would like to get something big and not yellow to bloom in early to late summer.

Any ideas?

I visited a new preserve today that's only 12 minutes away. Most of the flowers were yellow except for some New England Aster and Red Clover. The Ironweed was already finished. The Canada Leafcup has white flowers with yellow center. New England Aster, Silky Aster, Symphyotrichum puniceum, Symphyotrichum x amethystinum, Symphyotrichum ciliolatum, Arnoglossum reinforme and Amphicarpaea bracteata. All these have white, pink, blue or purple flowers. Amphicarpaea is the Hog Peanut and it's a vine. Symphyotrichum x amethystinum is a hybrid cross between Heath Aster, S. ericoides and New England Aster, Symphyotrichum novae-angliae.
