I am not sure where they are made. The company was bought by American Presto. It appears that they are in Ontario.

Here is a thread on a Mountain biking forum here and here. There "Mcleod" tool is well regarded or at least was. The thread does not talk about quality since the takeover.

Regardless, the OP is likely shilling for his company. No thanks.

Sounds like the tools are imported from all over.

My advice on tools is simple. Talk to your friends, neighbors, and fellow workers to find out what they use/have used, and go on their advice.

Always suspect reviews you read online. Some are posted by the manufacturers or merchants.

If I buy a Zac tool I'll go here or maybe even call Zac directly.

I used to buy mostly Sears Craftman tools, back in the day when you could wait for 50% off. I still have a lot of them (many of my tools were stolen from a shed.) So what is the modern day bargain equivalent? Anything rivaling Sears for a combination of price, warranty, and quality?

I think Craftsman is still a great deal for the homeowner type. The Craftsman liftime warranty is not the only one available. But I have never had a hassle trying to exchange something at Sears (2 times). I would rather not go through the hassle of any of the other manufacturers, especially an HF special. Kobalt tools through HD might be worth a try. Ridgid through HD also seems to be a good deal. Snap-on is of course cadillac but too expensive and not enough need for me to buy them.

I find that most homeowners can use about any cheap tool made. If you're not a mechanic and use tools everyday any tool would be strong enough for honey do's around the house.

So IMO one persons recommendation don't count for Shyt if he or she doesn't have the qualifications or experience to back it up. Now if he would of said I am a experiened mechanic and had qualifications to back it up then I might take a look. Othewise I have my own opinion on which tools are the best!

Hi RcMoser, teh zac tools are (were) HD trailwork and garden tools aka sticktools, not shop tools.

We used to use them, they were great. Zacuto went out of business before I could get a Zctool long-handled mattock.

I ws bent. If new stuff is Chinese, I aint buying even if they are good.

All of us 'splurge' on something. Some buy ultra-high
quality home entertainment systems, some buy fancy cars,
some spend a lot on top quality computer equipment, and
yes, some like to buy high quality tools. It's all in
whatever gives you pleasure. Life is too short, so if
you want it, and can afford it, go for it.
