Ebay or craigslist wood be you only hope unless you can find a BIG lawn mower junk yard close to your area. I would imagaine most people that have them probably are not willing to give them up unless the man of the house crooks and the wife selling off his toys.

Yes, but I thought Garden Web forums might produce somebody with an old mower that might be setting in there barn or machinery shed, just never know where one might be found. I hope to find one in rebuild-able condition, but it will be a tall order to fill. As to finding it on Ebay or CL, not one to be found that old, at least not yet. It could be a long search, no doubt. I'm looking for a Briggs from the mid 60's era, that is a 6 hp horizontal shaft. And it doesn't have to be complete, or even running. If I could just get parts and pieces, it would be helpful.

check the craig's list for NC - North Carolina. I've seen lots of postings about older engines of many manufacturers within the last 6 month's or so. With times being hard as they are, people are selling what they have to make ends meet.

Just a thought. Of course, if you find one, there'll be the shipping to deal with too.

I found that another engine was used as a repower option back then on the Bolens 600. It is a model 170400-499 Briggs. If anyone has a line where I might get one, let me know.
