Misting time and duration?

I have the small HFGH and we have started to have some very warm days on the Central Coast,CA. I have an automatic fan and vents. It seems like the fan has been going non stop.

I bought a misting system at DH today to help to cool it down. I have been hand misting a couple of times a day on the really hot days. I have some seedlings that are still too tender (we still get some very cold nights) to put out yet so want to keep them for another couple of weeks in the GH. And I just started some others that won't be ready for maybe even a month.

I am going to use the misting system with one of those battery timers. I can program it to come on number of times and for a certain duration. How often should it come on and for how long?

Thanks.

Hi Clare,

I'd say in your case every 1/2 hour is fine. You just want a misting of the foliage so adjust accordingly. Any large water droplets developing on the foliage - you need to adjust to make due.

Each and every situation is unique. Since I graft conifers or whatever in this same machine, I have to constantly tweak each situation as does the other fella with his own set of circumstances. Owning a greenhouse means you get the information you need, however you apply it to your unique situation if that makes sense to you. It makes sense to me.

Best of luck!

Dax - thanks for answering my question. I thought it might be something like that. I will have to play around and tweak it till I get what I want.

We have such extreme weather. Yesterday the GH got up to 100 inside and that is why I want the misters. Today we are socked in with pea soup fog and probably won't need them at all. Everyday it is something different.

aptosca, I can relate.
From last Wednesday through Sunday it was 100+ degrees daytime in our area so I tweaked all settings for the GH misters, shadecloth, etc for the hot season already.
Then Monday and today it was very foggy, cold and damp. I just love these crazy weather swings.
