Craftsman GDO troubles

My 1/2 hp Craftsman door opener makes a loud grinding noise when opening or closing. I checked the gears under the cover and they look fine. The noise actually is coming from the traveling part when it tries to engage with the door. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Chain or belt driven? The "traveling part" on my overhead rail is alway engaged with the door except when I pull the release and disengage it. Has the rail, and chain if applicable, been cleaned and greased? The rollers in the side tracks should be oiled. Is the door binding against the sides when going up and down? If the door has more than one panel, have the hinges been oiled?
