Replacement engine for chipper

I have a late 1980's Troy-bilt 4hp?? chipper shredder with a blown engine. This chipper has hammers instead of knives to cut; and this machine shreds leaves much finer than the other two chippers using knives I am familiar with.

So I plan to buy a replacement engine, a process that seems harder than expected. I searched a number of engine sites, and only found one possibility. Northern Tool offers a Briggs and Stratton 8.25 ft-lbs Gross torque 1"x 2 3/4" shaft Model #126312-0560-B8.

It appears that having a 1" shaft is unusual on a small 4 hp engine.

My question: is this 8.25 ft-lbs torque (I assume somewhat similiar to horsepower) too much power for this chipper?

I have not bought or installed a replacement engine before.

That would be around 6.5 HP? I don't think it's too much, but I'd be curious how the governed speed of the 2 engines compare.
Assuming that engine has the correct crank, these type#'s also have the same crank- It might help in your search.

Look at Tulsa Small Engine Warehouse for a replacement engine. Have the model and series number on hand and give them a call (toll free) and odds are they have or can get a engine for you. Much much better selection of motors than Northern has.

I would not worry if it had more horsepower, as long as it had the proper sized crank end and if necessary a drilled and tapped crankcase side for mounting chipper housing etc to it, and a PTO end running in a ball bearing owuld be good as well.....just do not go below the horsepower that is listed on the chipper...and do not exceed rpms listed for blown motor.
