Alot of folks there with older saws.

First off you need to remove the plug, the air filter and clean. Now spray carb cleaner 3 or 4 second blast down the spark plug hole pull the rope several times. Watch out for carb cleaner shooting back out the spark plug hole. Clean the spark plug with carb cleaner and a wire brush connect the plug to the wire and lay it on the side of the head and pull the rope to see if you have a good spark. If so install the plug.

Clean the air filter or replace it. look at the fuel lines from the carb. to the tank for any cracking or dry rot. pull the filter out of the tank and clean it or replace it, if you clean it check for flow by connecting a hose to it and blowing through with low pressure air, if compressor is not available you can use your mouth if you have experience doing stuff like that, but not recommended. Should be blow through with some resistents. I would also check the line up to the carb if possible that way you know you will get fuel to the carb.

Flush the gas tank out with fresh gas. Install the filter and hose back in the tank or replace any bad fuel hoses. fill it up with fresh fuel/mix. do the same to the bar oil tank to wash out any saw dust or hard crunches that may have formed over time. I usually shake it around to loosen up and thing stuck with in reason.

with the air filter off and access to the carb. squirt a one to two second blast of carb cleaner down the carb. venturi. with the choke open and the ingition on pull the rope. it should hit right off and should run atleast till the carb cleaner get burned up.

If it will run on carb. cleaner and will not keep running you may have to dissemble the carb. and do a through clean up and replace diapharm and seals. to get fuel flow through the carb. But only do this if it won't run other than off the carb cleaner. It should take right off depending on how long, how, and where it was stored.

If that don't work seek professional help if the saw is worth it to you.

Starting fluid is not a good priming fuel except in extreme cold climate conditions IMO. It offers no lubricating elements and offers no cleaning ability IMO, others may disagree.
