What are you carrying?

Here's mine, a Hen & Rooster "Little Cuttin Horse".

I have an assortment of knives, mostly cheap promo giveaways that I have accumulated over the years. I never carry a good one, probably lose it.

I have learned that a high carbon steel blade is best
because it will hold an edge. Cleaning and oiling often is necessary due to rust, but if you use it often, then not much of a problem. Stainless steel is nice but
you have to constantly sharpen it because the metal
    is soft.
In my pocket now is a Gerber, single blade with brass
ends and a wood insert on the handle.
And I keep my knives sharp because when I was young,
an old time told me that more people are cut with a
dull knife than a sharp one, and I learned that to be
    true.
And.....I will only use 'Lock-back' knives anymore,
since I had a blade fold back on me once and gave me a good
    slice.

"more people are cut with a
dull knife than a sharp one,"

Also true of guns. Except for war, more people are shot with empty guns then loaded ones. Since a gun is useless as a self defense weapon it only makes sense to keep 'em loaded and to make sure all who may come in contact with them know your policy.

Though I have an assortment of knives, including lockbacks, the only one I carry with me is the Leatherman Wave.

    Enjoy the journey.

Old Timer 60T. A custom machinist friend of mine likes his Buck about the same size, but I can't keep a Buck sharp. If you don't carry a knife all the time, how do you keep your balance when you walk? LOL

Although I agree that a carbon steel blade is easier to sharpen the newer/high quality stainless are good too.
I carried a green handle lock back Puma for years, my father sent it to me while I was in V/Nam. I sent him a dong in payment, you never "give" a knife. Sadly I lost it overboard in Ossabaw sound a coupla years ago helping a friend out on his shrimp boat. Now I carry one of those new stainless with a plastic handle. I will not cry if I lose this one and it is light. I do have a nice collection of knives made by the Schrade company. A friend that worked for them for years would open a drawer every time I visited and offer me any one I wanted. I always insisted on paying for it each time, even though he would only accept a dollar. He was from Germany and thought the superstition about a gift knife cutting a friendship to be "Quaint.".

My Hen & Rooster knife keeps a nice edge even though it is a stainless steel blade. But the black etching on the main blade is wearing off now, I have had the knife for 5 years and use it daily.

I have a small collection of yard sale jack knives, mostly, but the one I'm carrying now is one that came from Irwin with a set of Vice Grips. It's a single blade lock back. The blade is drop
point and nearly 1\8 inch thick, made of Stainless Steel. It's a very tough knife and keeps an edge fairly well. I sharpen it when I think of it.

Columbia River Knife & Tool folder, specifically the M16-Zytel 3" tanto-point version. Fastest folder to get opened of anything I've owned or used, since you can "flick" it open with your index finger instead of (and in addition to) opening it with your thumb as is most often the case.

I carry my trusty Ginsu pocket knife. In Japan, the hand can be used like a knife...but it can't cut a tomato!

I carry a Victorinox Mini-Tinker Swiss army knife, and a Spyderco Centofante III one-hand locking folder. Both are great knives. I'm also a big Benchmade and Emerson fan, but they're over my budget for daily carry.

Always loved Swiss Army knives for some reason and have about twenty of them - Wenger and Victorinox - at home. I always carry a Classic with me to work in my pocket, also a Gerber multitool stays in my briefcase, and each of my three vehicles has a Leatherman in the glove box..

    No one has a Boker?

I have used a 4-blade Boker for years.

I have have a Boker "Tree Brand" 3 blade pocket knife somewhere in the house. It is a very nice knife. The one I carry every day is the Hen & Rooster though.

I carry two pocket knives and a multi-tool with a couple blades on it. One knife is dull and one is sharp. The dull one is used for scraping jobs like taking caked grease off something, saving the sharp one from getting dull. The dull one is a 1.59 special from Menards and the sharp one is a Schrade.

To keep my Hen & Rooster pocket knife from getting too beat up I recently bought this Schrade Tradesman model TM1 hawkbill

    {{gwi:304312}}

It is good in the garden, pruning, cutting twine and cutting out the grass from around sprinkler heads on the lawn. $8 and they come with a lifetime warranty from Schrade that includes breaking the clip or the blade itself. Very sharp blade on it too and I like the fact it is a lock back knife.
