I'd look at compost tumblers, they come in various sizes and mfg's, you'd probably have to duct tape the air vent holes unless the one you select is adjustable.

Go with a Cement Mixer that has a poly drum (no rust). Easy to clean.

Then you will have a mixer with more uses than you could think of. From Potting soil, Fertilizer, Bird to Cattle feed.

Plus cement.

Cheap would be a clean wheelbarrow and a hoe. How much and how often would you be using the equipment?

If I were going to be mixing less than 40 hours a year, I'd go with wheelbarrow and a hoe. Plus one on that idea.

I use to mix my fertilizer by hand in a 5 gal bucket. I have never used more than a gal. at a time. I suppose that you could put in in a 5 gal. bucket and replace the lid and roll it around on the garage floor. ( you may need to put some baffles in the bucket) I would often mix all my supplies and store them in gal. milk jugs to keep them from getting hard because the nitrogen liked to collect moisture.

As far as bird feed goes, I expect the bird will eat the seed that it wants and let the others be eaten by another bird or critter.

I have never had a problem of not finding pre-mixed of anything I needed. I do however mix a little potting soil, but I am careful and try to mix it damp because some of that stuff you don't want to breathe.

Actually, every couple of years I mix my own lawn fertilize. Two bags of 12-12-12 and one of urea which is 47-0-0 in a wheelbarrow with a shovel. I find the shovel does a better job of getting under and mixing. The only tricky part is getting it into a spreader, I do that on a small tarp so any spills can be easily poured in the spreader.

Heh heh , I have mixed my share of concrete and mortar. If you can mix good mortar ,you can mix a cake or make bread or biscuits. Pancakes or waffles etc. Same deal on a smaller scale.

Your pancakes and waffles must be hard on the chompers...;)
