i bought a used Poulan Farmhand 2900 on eBay. it is a really good saw, but it is melting chain brakes. I'm on my second chain brake, including the one that came with the saw. i asked the buyer a question about buying a replacement chain brake because i thought i was doing something wrong. he responded that i probably need to buy a modified muffler. it sounds like he sold me a bad product, but I'm not here to vent him at this moment.
my question is: is this why the 2900 is not produced anymore? did it have a muffler problem where it was melting the chain brake? this is my first chainsaw and i bought it to cut about 3 trees down, so obviously, I'm an amateur. what are my options? can i buy another muffler to fix the problem, or can i cover the parts that are being melted with something metallic to protect it?
thanks for any and all responses i may get, because like i said, i now nothing about chain saws.
