I would love a cranberry red. Don't you think it would be too close to the color of the roof?

I would move the flag to the front porch and add house numbers above the garage The house numbers need to be large and mounted on a header. Cut the 2 trees/ bushes (one next to door and on left) round to match hedges. Paint the front door red. Maybe add an ironwork decorative item on garage wall nearest the front door. This would be very inexpensive,

I agree that the reddish roof and red shrub are enough of that color. I think a light shade of gray is a good neutral, and would give a nice contrast to the stone work around the bay window. I would also paint the front door a lighter color as it seems more like a dark hole now. Not sure what color to minimize the garage door which tends to dominate the front of the house.
Perhaps the same shade of gray instead of a contrasting color?

I like the idea of green and cranberry, but with white trim. The green I'd select would be a very muted gray/green such as B. Moore's Cromwell Gray HC-106 and I'd use it on the garage door and all the siding except that little bit in the gable over the front door. That and the front door I'd paint cranberry, using Red Apple Spice 2005-20. Leave the other trim white

Actually is is a deep redwood color - like the barberry bushes. We had nothing but compliments from the neighbors on the great contrast. It may be too bold for some. Good luck with your new home!

Start with the front door, right now it disappears in the shadows. As suggested above, red would look nice. For the facade, how about a muted blue-gray?

Very good suggestions so far...I would also suggest a small window over the garage, there is quite an expanse that needs to be filled.

Hi I'm an interior decorator and I have a few ideas for you. You could brighten the siding by using a yellow which would compliment the roof. See this Houzz pic....
Or darken it by using a brown from the brick like this one...
Although these homes are a different style from yours the colors would go nice. Paint the door brown and make the pillars larger. Use the same trim color as in the pics. Paint the garage door the same color as the siding so the front entrance stands out more, and paint the siding on the triangle above the door the same color as the trim. You can find a better house. The windows are wrong. You need true divided light or a wood clad window. Not cheap vinyl. The over all scale is bad and the entry is set too low. The columns are too small and the trim is weak. Go for your dream house! You deserve it.

Oloreille, this is a lovely home even if you don't change the colour. I like Sherri's idea of painting the body of the house a dark brown and keeping the trim light.

Very nice, I would add black shutters to all windows, dark burgundy front door and planters with Red flowers.

I agree with the deep grey colour for the entire house, also adding black shutters. It seems that it might be difficult with the amount of space around the windows. If you cannot do the shutters then add a wide trim instead. Take the colour from your roof and place it on the front door. Good luck in your new home.....it's lovely.

As a Professional Interior Designer and Color Expert, when I assist my clients to select paint colors for their home I use large...8" x 5" paint samples. I review the samples with the client to review with them possible paint colors that they like. Then I take those samples and actually tape them to the exterior of the home and review them. This is the only way to select paint as once the color is taped onto your home in your home's environment the color will either look great or look horrible. Keep in mind that darker colors will cause the home to look like it settles back onto the property and brighter colors will not have the same effect. I use this same process in selecting interior colors also.

On your home you must consider the red brick and the red roof and select colors that work well with those entities that will not change. Keep in mind that the more green you select, the more the brick and red roof will pop out so if you do select something from the cool side of the color wheel the dirtier grayer greens will work better. Also, the elevation of this home is basically boring with all one body color. I would use 2 body colors on this home as you have nice opportunities to do so. Balance the front porch color with the upper right body color and then the garage and above the porch areas could be another color. Certainly taking a photo of the home and using colored pencils will help you visualize And take the trim into an off white or even black.

This type of home is a very Traditional Style. Very dark Grey, with the white trim. Formalize the garden, topiary in black pots, white large daisy's etc. Change vents by the peaks to octagonal shape, same a top window (Traditional Colonial). Change light post to larger size to compensate for high roof line. Add shutters to bay window paint crisp white. Change door to rich high gloss wood. Add bright yellow rocking chair to porch. Add large tile entry walkway on two levels up to front door.

Agree that the octagonal vents would unify the top window and garage shapes .... also a great suggestion to tape colour choices in situ from previous posts. Perhaps changing the fascias trim colour and front door to the red tones to give it more pop and balance the shrubbery on the left. The garden lamp should be moved - wall lamps and lower garden lighting along the pathway would compensate for this.

I would paint the front door and the sidelites a sage green and I would paint the garage door brown with a faux wood finish; hire a professional. If you are in the PA/NJ/DE area I am an inexpensive home stager ($75 for two hours) and can help you arrange your furniture and decor. Also can make color recommendations along with cost effective renovations suggestions.

I think a bright yellow door would give you a fun pop of color, also if you go with a gray color on the house with white trim it will update the entire look!

I think your home is beautiful...you love it, and you see potential and that's great! You got a lot of wonderful suggestions. I really like the idea of even to just start with painting the front door. I painted my front door a really nice burgundy/red, and boy, what a difference!

There's a lot of empty space over the garage door. I might suggest a pergola in front of the garage door. (A column on each side of the door, beam connecting them, with smaller rafter type members perpendicular to the garage itself). Put the beam higher than the garage door. Change the vent above the gar. door to a larger half circle; these things will change the focus from the front door and odd window grouping at the front facade.

I think the garden is really boring, I would have big sweeping beds to the front and the back. I would add lots of colour and some mature planting too. A few well placed trees would give privacy and complement the house.

Thank you everyone for the wonderful suggestions. Woaw, there are so many, I will have to take some time to study each idea. Now I hesitate between painting the house a light yellow or a dark grey or brown/grey.
Ellis, where do you get these big 8" x 5" paint samples? I only see tiny ones in stores. I like sherwin williams a lot and will probably go there. It's true that the windows look somewhat odd but inside, this is only a foyer with stairs going to the 2nd floor. No room per se which is why there isn't such a need on windows (although more light is always nice). Anyway, the bedrooms, living dining room etc.. have nice windows but they do not face the frontyard.

I will put pictures of the after, I promise..but it may take a few months since I haven't even moved in the house yet. Just getting ready. I just sold a house in MD that we improved for selling and now that it looks so great..we have to leave. I don't want to do the same mistake with the new house and procrastinate.

Lavin, I think the frontyard will wait. There are too many things that need to be done inside first.

As an interior designer, the paint stores supply their complete line to me in large paint swatches so that I have tools to work with when assisting clients. It has been so great working with clients and having these large paint samples. It allows clients to really see what the paint color could look like/does look like. Even I don't select paint off of those small paint samples. Too much opportunity to make a mistake. Good luck. And yes, do not wait to remodel your new home!
