Most probably you have varnish in a jet or passageway. This won't be removed by compressed air. It may not even be removed with carb cleaner and air. It may require soaking in cleaner for 10 minutes and then flushing.

baymee........did you read the line where he drilled out the jet? I would pretty much think any varnish in a passage way might now be reinforced with metal cuttings.
Otherwise, (as you said) a very thorough soaking and cleaning along with a new, OEM main jet might fix the issues.

Thanks for the feedback. The carb looked so clean I never thought about a varnish clog. I,ll try the soak.

I drilled the jet out of the carburator so there were no chips to deal with.
Any idea where to buy a new jet?

Oh yeah, I saw that, but he said it still hunts. I'm surprised it runs at all, but anyway, back to the varnish removal job.........

I rebuild a carb 3 times (took apart and reassembled) before I realized that the fuel/air mixture screw had something in the hole small enought to avoid notice all three times. It is fixed now.

You said you drilled it out? How big a bit did you use? Common sence would dictate to use the same size bit as the jet hole? even if you use a bit bigger would the jet adjustment screw compensate when you adjusted the mixture? I would of tried to adjust the carb. after I cleaned it, which IMO was probably the problem all a long. SUrging IMO usually is an adjustment problem and if that don't fix it dirty carb.

Don't believe that carb has an adjustment screw there.

Thanks for all the great info. After cleaning the carb I installed it and adjusted it and the hunting continued.

My thinking was when I closed the choke 50% it ran perfect. I didn't drill the jet to clean it, I wanted to give it more gas - I must admit common sence was in short supply at the time.

might try ebay from time to time for a carb.? you might get lucky and find one???

It is fixed - soaking th carb body, washing it out and air drying did it.

Bet it runs a bit rich, with the jet mod!

You caught me! After soaking the carb & reinstalling the hunting was gone, however it did run too rich.

I removed the jet & epoxyed the hole shut
I knew the jet was 110 thousands.
I redrilled it with a #60 drill (125 thousands)
It ran fine after that
I'll not try & fool you again
