The Craftsman likely has a Briggs and Stratton but it sure seems small. IMHO, both machines would be very light duty given the prices and not very durable.

I was once looking at the engine of one of the Craftsman rear tine tiller. It has the same engine as my Polen front tine tiller( which is the same as the Craftsman front tine they have for $329) the engine number is on the OHV cover, you can go verify that yourself. The engine is rated moderate emmision durability which is the middle of the road. I have the tiller for over a year....as a home owner and I like it, I put about 40 hours on it. Always start with one to two pulls and plenty of power. I like my front tine tiller, I never use any others except my Mantis, so I am not going to recommend one way or the other. I only paid $299 from Amazon, no tax and shipping.

I notice when I change oil after 5 hours, the oil looked clean. I have a lawn mower with B & S lower rated engine, the oil looked like silvery black after 5 hours. I take that the tiller engine is better quality. Plenty of power for me, never bog down.

If you can get $220 off, it might not be that bad depend on whether you use it for home or business. For using once every two to three months like me, it should be plenty good.
