older craftsman mower

I have a 22 h p craftsman mower that won't start with the key.I have had the ign.switch,pto switch,safety switch at cluch/brake and seat switch checked checked solenoid still won't start with key. when i start it by touching the 2 terminals on solenoid it will start,but when release brake or pull pto switch it kills engine any suggestions

Where to start maybe to define "checked" more specifically. Plus posting your 917# from below the seat would be helpful. Do you have 12v at one small solenoid terminal and ground at the other when cranking? There is an actual tractors forum as well. If everything has truly checked out, maybe an OP relay?
